About
About The ADHD Store
Hi, I’m James and I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult in 2017. I was in my early 40s. My purpose for this store is to share in one place all the tools and strategies I’ve learned that work for me to manage my ADHD.
We have recently experienced six months of an unprecedented global shortage of ADHD medication. The situation has motivated me to create this site to provide other strategies for ADHD management. Medication has always been part of a wider combination of treatments which includes education, skills training and coaching.
I feel it is more important than ever right now to help people who are like me and know that you’re not alone in wanting to be able to manage your day-to-day lives with less stress and anxiety. By providing these simple and effective tools I hope to help people unlock their potential and thrive as a Neurodivergent person.
About me
I’m a digital product designer diagnosed with ADHD.
From my 20s, way before I had any idea that I had ADHD, I had a keen interest in learning and practising productivity hacks, self-development, working effectively, achieving peak performance, and just about everything to do with being the best I could be.
I started writing to-do lists, creating systems and routines, committing them to memory and grouping things according to function or task location.
Looking back, I can now see that these strategies were coping mechanisms to compensate for the executive function challenges of having ADHD. Being diagnosed brought me great relief to find out what was really going on with me. This new understanding of myself helped me to find more effective strategies towards managing ADHD symptoms based on scientific knowledge of the condition.
As a digital designer, my work involves understanding human behaviour and user experience to design digital products like websites and apps. I have a fascination and curiosity for tools and strategies that can change our behaviour.
It is not a surprise that my interest in behavioural science and why we do the things we do is related to my lifelong journey in understanding the differences that I found in comparing my behaviour to a neurotypical person.
My work also involves studying behavioural change, being creative, problem-solving and thinking outside the box, skills that people with ADHD tend to do well in. My research into human behaviour has led me into the fields of neuroscience, psychology, sociology, and health and fitness.
I hope that the collection of tools and strategies that I use which I am sharing with you here will also help you with the challenges of having ADHD. Let me know how you get on with them and what other tools you’d like to see available here.
Believe in yourself, you’ve got this!
James 🙂✨
